Growing up in the 70's and 80's like I did was a great time in the martial arts. You had great heroes like Bruce Lee, Chuck Norris, and many others who came along in their footsteps.
The 80's and 90's enjoyed an influx of Martial artists like Jean Claude Van damme, Steven Seagal, and the like. As we are now in the new Milenium there are not as many heroes in the martial arts world as there used to be. The time has come for someone to step up and start making some classic movies again to bring Martial arts back to Prominence. Yeah the Kung fu movies like Hero and Crouching tiger hidden dragon are ok..but they are a little far fetched if you ask me. Great martial artists in these movies but lets be honest..no one can fly.
Just my 2 cents worth.

Getting back to Tradition
There is a very sad fact right now in the martial arts world. The fact that the economy has begun to stink so bad it is hard to keep old students and in fact even harder to get new students to join your school. Mixed Martial arts has come on to the scene and in fact has hurt the traditional styles when it comes to Longevity. If you are a fan of Mixed martial arts its ok, but what you dont see much in these events is Martial arts. Basically you see a few Jiu Jitsu moves maybe if the action goes to the floor, but other than that you just see a street brawl until someone goes down and that person usually takes 2 or 3 more shots when they are helpless on the Mat. Although watching these events is entertaining, there is very little real martial arts involved. In my opinion they should come up with a better name for it like Extreme Fighting or something like that. Traditional martial arts teach their students respect, Discipline, and the basic motor skills and techniques to help the student through life. SO the best thing to do is to start your children early, maybe sign up for classes yourself in a nice reputable Karate School and you can reap some benefits from trained professionals Helping you and your family grow.

Okinawan style Shorin Ryu and Kenpo
Hello everyone.
I am Jonathan Sexton of the KoR. I have been in martial arts since I was 9 years old and have seen a lot of styles and a lot of different Teachers. In 1999 I found Tracy's Karate who teach Kenpo. Kenpo is a mixture of Japanese and chinese martial arts that basically became very big in Hawaii. I started my Training with John McTernan, a very good instructor from New York. My travels now have taken me to being taught by Mark Tracy the son of Grand master Al Tracy. I hold a 3rd Brown belt in Kenpo at the moment and am working hard to Achieve my Black belt certification somewhere in the beginning of 2009. This Blog is here to talk about all kinds of martial arts. I myself do not have all the answers about martial arts and have never claimed to so I welcome all input and am willing to research where I may have to so that we can find answers together.
My ultimate goal is to start my Kenpo studio in 2009 as well probably somewhere in the Beechmont area or Northern Kentucky.
so I am looking forward to hearing from everyone..
